Blair’s 3-point night leads Eagles over Wildcats

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Soo Eagles captain Brendan Blair tallied twice, including the game-winner, and added an assist to help lead his team to a 6-2 decision over the Elliot Lake Wildcats in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter Tuesday night at Centennial Arena.

Sault Ste. Marie was all business early on as they skated out to a 2-0 lead before the contest was two minutes old.

Jack Strauss put the Eagles in flight 73 seconds in with his second of the season followed by Kobe Keller’s 12th moments later.

Elliot Lake got one back from the first period was complete thanks to a Tanner Hicks man advantage marker at 8:24 as he collected his 10th overall.

Moving on to the middle session, it played out the same with the Soo striking twice courtesy of Blair and George Orfanos sandwiched around an Andrew Maltby effort.

The Eagles put the game away in the third on tallies from Charley Hanewall and Blair, via the power play, to complete to road victory.

Brett Morich, Cam Parrott and Dominic Skrelja chipped in with two assists apiece to aid the Soo offensive cause.

Shots on goal favoured the Eagles by a 56-27 count with Joseph Benedetto earning the win while Dominic Boily made 50 stops for the Wildcats in the loss.
