Blind River edges Elliot Lake 3-2

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – A Tiger Weber tally with 13 and a half minutes remaining in regulation was the game-winner as the Blind River Beavers edged the Elliot Lake Wildcats 3-2 Thursday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League exhibition match-up at Centennial Arena.

Elliot Lake did strike quickly in this one picking up the game’s first goal 14 seconds after the opening faceoff thanks to a Ty Hannaford effort that eluded Blind River starter Myles Hektor.

The Beavers countered with the equalizer a couple shifts later with Anthony Pullicino tying it at 2:51.

The Wildcats went back in front before the first was finished as Nick Long found the back of the net with 45 seconds left in the session.

Action in the middle stanza saw the visitors use the power play to level the proceedings with Cole Peck connecting during a man advantage at 11:05.

It stayed 2-2 into the third when Weber knocked in the difference maker as Blind River skated to victory in their preseason opener.

Wes Werner picked up the win for the Beavers in relief as he stopped all 10 shots fired his way in 20 minutes of work.

Hektor handled 15 of the 17 he saw while playing the first two periods.

Justin Richer was busy in defeat in the Elliot Lake net as he was peppered with 51 pucks.
