Canadians earn road win vs. Wildcats

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – A Dylan Callaghan power play goal 7:26 into the third period held up as the game-winner as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians defeated the Elliot Lake Wildcats 3-2 Sunday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Centennial Arena.

Neither side would score in the opening frame in what was a tight-checking session.

Rayside-Balfour did strike first midway through the second stanza on Matthew Neault’s eighth of the campaign.

A man advantage helped Elliot Lake get the equalizer at 12:42 when Quinn Robelle tied things up.

Jorge Perez got that back for the Canadians with 3:21 to go as the visitors took a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Callaghan’s extra man marker put Rayside-Balfour up by two in the third while the Wildcats managed to get one late from Taylor Woolcott with 54 seconds to go to round out the scoring.

Owen Johansson recorded the win for the Canadians making 27 stops while Justin Richer faced 25 attempts in defeat for Elliot Lake.
