GALLERY: Elliot Lake electric in 2nd period in come from behind triumph over Powassan

POWASSAN, Ont. – Down by three after one period of play, the Elliot Lake Wildcats rallied with a four-goal barrage in the second stanza to help them pull out a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Powassan Voodoos Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportsplex.

It was a tale of two periods in the first 40 minutes, which saw the Voodoos dominate the opening frame only to see the Wildcats control the middle stanza.

Powassan powered their way to a 3-0 lead after one on goals from William Petrie, with his first in league play, Gabienen Kioki and Henry Scott all finding the back of the net.

Heading to the second session though, Elliot Lake reversed their fortunes by erupting for their four goals in the back half of the period, which came less than nine minutes apart.

Caleb Minns started the outburst midway though before Josh Bifolchi brought the visitors to within one at 15:43.

The Wildcats then came right back to tie it 38 seconds later off the stick of Sean Hagan then capped off their offensive onslaught on another by Minns at 18:25 to give them the lead entering the third.

In that final frame, Powassan pressed hard to knot the affair, firing 17 shots on Elliot Lake netminder Dominic Boily, who shut the door and backstopped his side to the road win.

Noah Minns had two assists in the triumph for the Wildcats while Ryan Mills had a couple of helpers for the Voodoos in defeat.

Boily finished with 40 saves overall in picking up the victory with Joe Vrbetic seeing 29 shots in the setback.
