Eskis comeback to edge Wildcats on Stickney’s 3rd period winner

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – David Stickney’s first goal of the season midway through the third period was the difference maker as the Iroquois Falls Eskis rallied from three behind before eventually skating to a 4-3 triumph over the Elliot Lake Wildcats Friday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Centennial Arena.

Elliot Lake got off to a solid start in the contest grabbing a 2-0 lead after the opening stanza on efforts by William Bucsis, who was making his NOJHL debut, and connected on a power play chance along with Jacob Kelly, who picked up his seventh of the season while the squads were playing at even strength.

The Wildcats then went up by three early in the second as the got another man advantage marker off the stick of Nick Long at 1:23.

Iroquois Falls then began their comeback by striking three times before the second period was complete with Wade Auger and Dillan Bruce scoring on the power play and Jack Speer at even strength.

Bruce’s effort allowed him to extend a consecutive game point streak to 15 as he returned to the Eskis line-up following a three-week absence.

Stickney then completed the comeback with effort at 10:05 of the third to round out the scoring.

Shadow Reuben and Josh Dejulio both had two assists each for the winners with Reuben running a point streak to 11 with his pair of helpers.

Troy Button had a couple assists for Elliot Lake in defeat.

Trevor Hawkes stopped 41 of 44 to post the win for the Eskis while Justin Richer faced 35 shots a losing cause for the Wildcats.
