Hepler runs point streak to 19 as Wildcats clip Eskis

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Cole Hepler tallied twice to extend a current Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League point streak to 19 games as the Elliot Lake Wildcats clipped the Iroquois Falls Eskis 5-1 Friday evening at Jus Jordan Arena.

It took Elliot Lake just over two minutes to get on the board courtesy of a Liam Blais marker at 2:07.

The Eskis tied it later in the period as David Osborne connected on the power play 15 minutes later with his team-leading 30th goal of the season.

Artur Terchiyev’s 10th put the Wildcats back in front 5:15 into the second while Chad Lopez made it 3-1 with 36 seconds left in the middle session.

Hepler continued his point streak with nine minutes to go then rounded out the night’s scoring with his second of the evening and 31st overall just 19 seconds later.

Spencer MacLean had a solid night as well as the Wildcats captain doled out three assists.

Al Rogers started for Elliot Lake and picked up the win playing the first two periods and 57 seconds into the third before having to leave the game in favour of Aaron Mackay.

Rogers had 14 stops along the way while Mackay handled all eight attempts he saw in relief.
