Mackay stops 33 as Wildcats blank Eagles

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Aaron Mackay stopped all 33 shots he faced to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as the Elliot Lake Wildcats blanked the Soo Eagles 4-0 Saturday evening at Pullar Stadium.

Elliot Lake got things going offensively with the lone tally of the opening period as Drew Stirling notched his second of the season.

Alec MacKenzie added to the Wildcats lead early in the middle frame as his effort eluded Eagles starter Jack Deines at 2:17.

MacKenzie supplied another near the six-minute mark of the third to put the visitors up by three.

Patrick Smith’s first of the campaign rounded things out offensively for the Wildcats victory with 4:48 to go.

Shane Woolsey dished out a pair of assists for Elliot Lake in the win.

Deines saw 39 attempts fired his way in defeat for the Eagles.
