NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that goaltender Cameron Smith (Elliot Lake Red Wings) as well as forwards Seth Ferguson (Soo Eagles) and Luciano Supino (Kirkland Lake Gold Miners) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending February 6.

CAMERON SMITH, (G) ELLIOT LAKE RED WINGS – In a pair of road starts over the weekend, the 18-year-old from Stouffville, Ont., won both of them, to help Elliot Lake move into playoff contention in the NOJHL’s West Division.

With triumphs over French River and Cochrane, Smith registered a solid 1.00 goals-against average along with a stingy .969 save percentage.

In his past seven starts for the Red Wings, he has helped his side go 4-2-1-0 in that span.

He also has five contests in which he has made 40-plus saves, since joining the club back in November.

A 19-year-old native of Brighton, Mich., Ferguson began his productive week with a two-tally effort Friday in a shutout win over visiting Powassan.

He than provided a trio of assists Saturday, in a come from behind decision in Blind River.

His season so far has seen Ferguson provide six multi-point contests.

LUCIANO SUPINO, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – In the Gold Miners’ opening contest of 2022, Supino played a pivotal part in a road win over French River, Saturday.

The 17-year-old from Toronto dished out a trio of quality assists, including one on the game-winner, in the victory.

Supino’s offensive outburst puts him at nearly a point-per-game pace for Kirkland Lake, with 31 in 32 outings.
