Rayside-Balfour rallies to top Elliot Lake in 2OT

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – A Danny Lepage tally 1:47 into the second overtime helped the Rayside-Balfour Canadians complete a late rally to defeat the Elliot Lake Wildcats 5-4 Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Centennial Arena.

Each side would get score twice in the opening period with Ryan Erickson and Ryan Mooney connecting for the Canadians while Spencer MacLean and Shane Woolsey countered for the Wildcats.

Elliot Lake notched the lone marker in the second stanza on Ismael Dumerlus’ first NOJHL goal at 7:46.

Moving on to the third, the Wildcats then went up 4-2 with just over 15 minutes remaining on MacLean’s second of the evening.

Rayside-Balfour started their comeback with 5:14 to go as Erickson struck for a second time in the game.

The Canadians’ Jayme Forslund then forced extra time with his initial league tally as he connected on the power play at 16:11.

After a scoreless first OT, Lepage completed the visitor’s comeback with the decider as the team’s played three skaters aside.

Kyle Fransen and Otis Goldman had three assists apiece for Rayside-Balfour on the night while Forslund had a pair of helpers.

Cole Hepler and Artur Terchiyev dished out two assists each for the Wildcats in defeat.

Jessie Morin made 44 saves in net to secure the win for the Canadians.

Aaron Mackay saw 27 attempts fired his way in the loss for Elliot Lake, who did pick-up a point with the OT setback.
