POWASSAN, Ont. – Notching a pair of third period tallies, the Powassan Voodoos rallied from a one-goal deficit to the defeat the Elliot Lake Red Wings 3-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Skating four-on-four past the midway point of the first frame, Elliot Lake got on the board thanks to Silas Crawford as he corralled a shot on net from the left side by defenceman Devin Shoreman and calmly tucked it into the open side on Powassan starter Owen Wray.

It stayed 1-0 for the visitors until half-way through the second stanza where Voodoos’ blueliner Caleb Van de Ven whipped in a one-timer from the slot past Red Wings’ goaltender Cameron Smith, off a crisp feed from teammate Owen Fergusson.

Moments after killing off a penalty, Elliot Lake broke out in numbers and proceeded to go back on in front after Alex Antoine whistled a low shot into the bottom right hand corner at 18:58.

In the third though, Powassan levelled the proceedings once more, compliments of Chase MacQueen-Spence, who pumped in an attempt from the opposite side that bounced on the end glass right to him and allowed him to convert.

The home team then came right back off the draw and got the game-winner from Alex Little as he whipped one past Smith at 6:24.

From there, Wray and Voodoos held firm to secure the home ice victory and collect their NOJHL-best 25th win of the season as they improved to 25-7-4-1.

Elliot Lake meanwhile saw their record fall to 9-24-1-0 overall in the narrow setback.
